This practice consists of removing the fins from live sharks and discarding their body at sea where they die of suffocation. A very cruel and violent way of collecting fins. Sharks are vulnerable species as nearly 100 million of them are finned each year which has extensive implications for marine systems (food chains, oxygen evolution).
Generally speaking, the whole ecosystem suffers from human behavior.
“Sharkutery” is also an anglicism/play on word based on the French word “charcuterie”…
